Being a person isn’t easy right now — and, let’s be real, Twitter isn’t helping.
Whether you find yourself social media surfing to kill time or glued to the news to stay informed, doomscrolling is the pandemic-era activity we all should be doing a little less. It’s not good for our mental health, and as we all know too well, it doesn’t actually fix anything.
So, to infuse your feed with a little extra joy, here are 10 Twitter accounts to follow that consistently post things that make us smile. No more, no less, just a little reprieve from this mess.
1. “Big Ben” (@big_ben_clock)
BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG
— Big Ben (@big_ben_clock) January 18, 2021
The unofficial Twitter account of England’s most iconic time-piece, @big_ben_clock shares hourly updates from the heart of London. Start each and every hour with the clock tower’s iconic “BONG BONG BONG.” At worst, you’ll find yourself keeping better track of the time. At best, you’ll enjoy a little smile every time you catch this super simple, but still excellent joke passing by.
2. “A bear” (@A_single_bear)
I found a wet blanket, so I am hopeful about today. I am a bear.
— A bear (@A_single_bear) January 12, 2021
There’s never been a better time for appreciating the simple things in life, a practice @A_single_bear has perfected since joining Twitter in 2013. Follow along as an anonymous bear shares updates from their day, like how warm their belly feels in the sun and how exciting it is to find a wet blanket. Just never forget, they are a bear.
3. “Faces in Things” (@FacesPics)
It’s the everyday object humor that never gets old. Spot faces in unexpected places with @FacesPics, a Twitter account dedicated to curating photos of things that look like faces. Some of them work better than others, but when they hit — they really hit. I mean, look at that stapler!
4. “ladies and gentlemen, the weekend” (@CraigWeekend)
A spiritual successor to the Russian Doll-inspired “Thursday. What a concept!” account, @CraigWeekend repurposes a pre-pandemic Saturday Night Live clip of Daniel Craig introducing musical artist The Weeknd as a celebratory announcement of Friday afternoons. It’s perfect.
“What a colorful evening of the year!”
— Preschool Gems 💎 (@PreschoolGems) December 20, 2020
@PreschoolGems tweets the least consistently of any account on this list, but wow, are these tweets worth waiting for. Get the best of the best quotes from a pre-kindergarten classroom relayed to you by teacher Leslie McCollom. If you like this account, consider also following @XplodingUnicorn, where dad and author James Breakwell shares quotes from his daughters.
— abolish the police (@infinite_scream) January 18, 2021
Revel in a digital manifestation of the internal scream plaguing us all with @infinite_scream. Managed by writer Nora Reed, this is an account that just screams. Infinitely.
Here is the Emperor’s public schedule for tomorrow:
“Emperor Palpatine will work from early in the morning until late in the evening. He will make many calls and have many meetings.
He is definitely not dead at the bottom of a reactor shaft and is very extremely alive.”
— Death Star PR (@DeathStarPR) January 17, 2021
As necessitated by the not-so-awesome actions of some human beings, Twitter often serves as a landing pad for apologies and public relations maneuvers. @DeathStarPR sends up that bummer of a reality by offering its services to the Imperial Forces. It’s a solid parody of modern news items that never gets too serious, and always reminds you of Star Wars.
There are plenty of Twitter accounts dedicated to curating satisfying videos, but @SatisfyingDaily is especially consistent. Ensure you get proof that at least some things can go the way you want them to by following this steady stream of soap cutting, paint mixing, and other relaxing visuals.
With 1.2 million followers on Twitter and surprisingly hopping Discord, @WholesomeMemes is one of the most popular curators of nice internet jokes out there. Always optimistic with a special emphasis on self-care, this is a good one if you need a reminder that everything is going to be OK.
10. Red Panda Every Hour! (@RedPandaEveryHr)
Dogs, pigs, alligators, snakes: You can get plenty of animals delivered directly to your Twitter feed on demand, but something about @RedPandaEveryHr just really does it for me. Bask in the chill majesty of this endangered mammal, and the safe consistency of content on a timer.
